Overview (U):

(U) The Air Force Development Test Center (AFDTC) of Air Force Materiel Command is located at Eglin AFB, FL. Its mission includes the full spectrum of planning, directing, and conducting the test and evaluation of non-nuclear munitions, electronic combat, and navigation/guidance systems. AFDTC is also responsible for all host and base support functions for Eglin AFB. The Test Center accomplishes its mission through two component wings - the 46th Test Wing and the 96th Air Base Wing.

Description (U):

(U) The Air Force Development Test Center, Eglin Air Force Base, FL, is the core of the Air Force's air armament team responsible for managing every aspect of a munition's life cycle, from initial concept through development, acquisition, experimental testing, and ultimately, combat. "Team Eglin" is a partnership between AFDTS, Air Force Materiel Command's Wright Laboratory and Aeronautical Systems Center, and the Air Force Combat Command's 53rd Wind and 33rd Fighter Wing.

(U) The center's 46th Test Wing manages the overall test and evaluation program. Eglin has extensive ground facilities and approximately 30 aircraft of various types. The test wing controls all of the land test ranges throughout the 724-square-mile base complex.

(U) Major tests, on or above AFDTC's ranges, involve all types of equipment, including aircraft systems and subsystems, missiles, guns, bombs, rockets, targets and drones, high-powered radar and airborne electronic countermeasures equipment.
