(U) Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR)


(U) The Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) category uses space assets to provide situational awareness of terrestrial events and activities to the warfighter. ISR provide the warfighter situational awareness of events and activities on Earth, including surface force and aircraft movements, construction of facilities, information on demographics and geography, and significant man-made or natural events, using information collected by space systems. The ISR category also uses space assets to detect, identify, track, assess, and warn of terrestrial based threats to US and Allied national interests. Includes missile launch preparation, detection and warning (ballistic or cruise, intercontinental or theater, fixed or mobile, land or sea based), warning of airborne threats including surface to air missiles, warning of terrestrial based threats to space systems, and warning of threatening naval or ground force movements.
