Overview (U):

(U) The Forward Area Support Terminal (FAST) is the TENCAP system designed specifically to support the separate brigades. The FAST is a single position MITT in a box. There are currently 13 FASTs deployed. I, III, V, and XVII Corps each have one, for use by selected units in the command during contingencies. There are four FASTs in Korea located with the Third Republic of Korea (ROK) Army, First ROK Army, 102d MI Bn (2ID), and 501st MI Bde. The remaining FASTs are at 3rd Armored and 2nd Cavalry Regiments, 66th and 513th MI Bdes, and the Joint Precision Strike Demonstration.


Description (U):

(U) The FAST has communications capabilities very similar to the MITT.

(U) The FAST has digital 35mm camera and a 8mm camcorder that allows for tactical users to originate battlefield imagery and transmit it as a SID product using a frame grabber capability. FAST has multiple configurations from the one box "broadcast receive only" to six cases. In the six box configuration the cases include one of each of the following:
- VME UNIX 10 HS 66Mhz processor
- 21" Color Monitor
- Video Printer
- SUCCESS radio
- TENCAP System Processor (CSP)

(U) The FAST is soldier-portable. The six box configuration weighs a total of 1200 lbs. and occupies a half pallet air transport load.
