Overview (U):

(U) The IBS is an effort to enhance the current UHF Tactical Related Applications (TRAP) Data Dissemination System (TDDS), Tactical Data Exchange System (TADIXS-B), Tactical Information Broadcast Service (TIBS), BINOCULAR (NSA Broadcast Network), and Tactical Reconnaissance Intelligence Exchange System (TRIXS) into a wideband joint situational awareness architecture with a common data format.

Description (U):

(U) The Integrated Broadcast System (IBS) will manage the integration of several intelligence broadcast systems into an integrated "system of systems" that permits producers and sources to generate and disseminate tactical intelligence data to the warfighter via multiple transmission media. IBS will also migrate tactical terminals and receivers into a single related Joint Tactical Terminal (JTT) family. The IBS architecture is focused on the tactical users' information requirements, and accounts for the fact that some tactical users have more powerful C4I capabilities than others. IBS will provide timely coherent track, targeting, situational awareness, and threat avoidance data to tactical users. It will use wideband communications available in the Defense Information Infrastructure (DII), the Defense Information System Network (DISN), the Global Broadcast Service (GBS), and any other available and emerging national or commercial communications capabilities. The performance parameters of near real time, assured delivery, multi-level security, interoperability, and availability merits possible evaluation as a communications solution for Ballistic Missile/Command and Control (BM/C2) to include strategic warning.
